A brand new trio formed specially for this event.
Their mission is simple; to deliver a Cajun dancehall sound in a stripped back, acoustic format. Big, driving two steps and soulful waltzes. Taking influence from the early Cajun pioneers such as, Nathan Abshire, Aldus Roger, Balfa Brothers, Austin Pitre and Lawrence Walker and also adding more modern sounds like Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys.
Lil Jim was voted “Best Zydeco Accordion Player in Europe” at the European Cajun & Zydeco Awards in 2006. Opened up Fairport’s Cropredy Convention to 25,000 people in 2019. Numerous appearances on TV and radio, as well as performances in UK, Europe and USA.
Not just off-the-wall antics with The New Rope String Band and The Chipolatas, Jock is known for his fiddling in Cajun bands such as The Flatville Aces and the Bearcats. He also nurtures a long-time passion for Southern Appalachian old time fiddling for many years, touring worldwide with his regular bands and US acts. He is much in demand as a private and workshop tutor.
Vera van Heeringen was raised in the acoustic music scene in her native Holland. She toured with The New Rope String Band for almost five years, after which she released her debut album Standing Tall in 2012, followed by a second album Proper Brew in 2015. In 2020 she released an EP in collaboration with Hudson’s very own Neil McSweeney.
Individually, their musical talent is undeniable, but put together they will create a powerhouse rhythm akin to what you’d find in Louisiana dancehalls.
